Welcome to 1st Redditch Colony
The Beavers' motto is "FUN AND FRIENDS". We hope that your son/daughter finds this motto to be true.
When your child first attends they will be non-invested, a "Kit", after attending for 4 to 6 weeks they will be asked if they would like to be invested into the scouting movement.
The "Kit" will say the "Promise" in the "Investiture Ceremony" and will receive badges (see uniform picture for badge location), a neckerchief and woggle. The Beaver Scout Promise is:
"I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God"
At the start of the meeting we form a "Dam", which is a circle in the middle of the hall. Then a Beaver is given "Nibbles", colony mascot, to hold. This Beaver then says: - "Who are we?" Then the colony replies: - "We are Beavers" and spells out "B-E-A-V-E-R-S", "What do we have?" - "Fun", "What do we make?" - "Friends".
At the end of the meeting we form a "Dam"€, and then a Beaver, with help, will read the closing prayer. We all hold hands and form a large circle, then as we walk in to the centre the colony says: "€œGoodnight Beavers".
Invested members are called "Beavers" and as part of the scouting association they must wear the uniform. The uniform consists of turquoise blue sweatshirt, neckerchief and woggle with trousers or shorts (black, grey or navy). Other optional items are: - turquoise blue polo shirt and cap. All can be purchased from the local County Scout shop
We meet Tuesday 5.15-6.15pm, during school term times only.
Subscription - £3.50 per Beaver, each week (during school term-time) whether or not the Beaver attends.
Over half of Subs goes towards insurance and hut costs, the remainder on badges and in hut activities.
So it is important that Subs is paid, just like car insurance, even if a car is not driven, the insurance still has to be paid for and it's the same with our Subs.
SleepOvers, Camp, Trips and Activities - will all be charged individually.
Welcome to 1st Redditch
TrackingWe meet: on Tuesday evenings between 6.30-8.00pm at Harris Close
During school term only.
Sub: Is now £3.50 which you can pay weekly or monthly. It will need to be paid whether or not your Cub attends a night, except when the leader says it is not running. We run about 36 week a year, which means you will pay about £126 a year.
Uniform: New Cub will have to attend for 5-6 weeks prior to being invested. When your Cub is invested, they will need to have a green Cub jumper and group neckerchief, which you can get from the local County Scout shop. See the Correct badge positions.
The cubs scout promise:
I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout law
The cubs scout law:
Cub Scout always does their best
Think of other before themselves
And do a good turn every day
Welcome to 1st Redditch
Scouting uses methods of young people working in partnership with adults to:
  • Enjoy what they are doing
  • Learning by doing
  • Participating in varied and progressive activities
  • Making choices for themselves
  • Taking responsibility for their own actions
  • Working in groups
  • Taking increasing responsibility for others
  • Taking part in activities outdoors
  • Sharing in prayer and worship
  • Making and living out their Promise and scout laws.
Located - Harris Close
We meet - 6.30-8.30pm Wednesday nights during School term times.
Subscription - £3.50 per scout, each week (during school term-time) whether or not the scout attends.
Half goes towards insurance and hut costs and the other half goes directly into the scouts.
ArcheryNew scouts attend 4-5 weeks prior to investiture. For investiture purposes a scout will need a scout shirt, neckerchief, woggle and understand his law and promise. (Uniform requirements can be sought from the local County Scout shop)
Here at 1st Redditch we try to deliver a varied challenging programme so that our scouts can fulfil their full potential and get as much out of scouting as possible.
Guidelines
In order to do this we have a few guidelines that all scouts are required to adhere to:
The Scout Law & Promise (which a scout learns before they are invested)
We also have our anti-bullying code of conduct which is reviewed and agreed by the scouts themselves. Our culture dictates no name calling or physical aggression and scouts will be asked to leave as there is no tolerance for misbehaviour.
Finally, Adult support - Not a weekly commitment (unless you would like to help weekly), but consists of occasional assistance running events, activities, camps etc. With child protection being our priority, all assisting adults are required to have scout clearance, any leader can help you with this process.
The 1st Redditch goal is to get at least one parent/guardian per scout to go through this process, as currently the lack of help from parents is preventing putting on numerous activities that could otherwise go ahead.
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Structure and meetings
A group of Explorer Scouts is called a Unit.
Not all Units meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that crop up in a teenager's life, and also because Explorers tend to get out and about at weekends more often than other sections.
Activities
Explorer Scouts often get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in their District, not just their own Unit, so can take part in an even wider spectrum of activities.
There is also a range of ambitious badges and awards, through which Explorers can demonstrate their proficiencies and expand their interests.
Subscription - £2.50 per Explorer, each week (for 48 weeks only) whether or not the Explorer attends.
Over half of Subs goes towards insurance and hut costs, the remainder on badges and some activities.
So it is important that Subs is paid, just like car insurance, even if a car is not driven, the insurance still has to be paid for and it's the same with our Subs.
Camps, Trips and Activities - will all be charged individually.
We meet: on Thursday evenings between 7.30-9.30pm at Greenlands Hut and Friday evenings between 7.45-9.30pm at Astwood Bank.

Volunteers
The Scout movement would not exist if it wasn't for the time and effort of volunteers. We are always looking for volunteers to help in running any of our Scout sections at 1st Redditch Scout group. Becoming an adult helper is a fun and rewarding way to spend an hour or two a week or if you are looking to get even more involved you could become an Assistant Leader or Leader (where positions are availiable). All we ask if that you are over the age of 18 and that you complete a satisfactory enhanced CRB check.
The following vacancies are available. They require an hour or two, once a month:
  • Subscription Taker
  • Occasional Helper
  • Adult Helpers
If you would like to know more about joining the Scout movement, please contact us.

The Parent Rota is a way for parents to contribute to running activities. It helps ease the burden on existing volunteers and as little as a few hours per school term would be a great help.
